Revised Marriage Rite and Workshop: the revised Rite of Holy Matrimony in English and its counterpart in Spanish for the United States have both received recognitio from the Holy See. When the Bishops’ Committee on Divine Worship received the approved texts, there were “some serious discrepancies between the approved Spanish text for the United States and [the] new English translation….” However, I have just received word from FDLC that a “go ahead” for publication has been granted. It is anticipated that the actual printed ritual will be available for purchase in August 2016 (no specific date given). The MAY USE date for the revised ritual is September 8, 2016, the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The MUST USE date is December 30, 2016, the Feast of the Holy Family.
A workshop on the revised Rite of Holy Matrimony, jointly sponsored by the Bishops’ Committee on Divine Worship and the FDLC, is scheduled for several venues throughout the United States. The closest one to us will be in Baton Rouge on April 29, 2016 for priests. This workshop will be repeated on April 30, 2016 for Deacons and others who work in marriage ministry. Both workshops will be held at the Bishop Robert E. Tracy Pastoral Center in Baton Rouge 1800 S Acadian Thruway, Baton Rouge, LA 70808. The Executive Director of FDLC, Rita Thiron, is in the process of developing a registration form that she will put online in the near future. You will be able to register at the FDLC website, www.fdlc.org. Please mark your calendars for this very important workshop! It is important that every priest and deacon attend the workshop.
