Coastal Entrepreneurs' Net to Success (CENTS) is a self employment, entrepreneurs' program that provides training and one-on-one counseling to support the development and growth of legitimate small or micro businesses. CENTS recently organized a gathering of program graduates to help the entrepreneurs network, support each other and learn about available resources. Catholic Charities developed the CENTS program after Hurricane Andrew in 1992 to help local residents start or expand small businesses so that they are better able to have the money to recover from future storms. These micro-businesses may be full time or may supplement income from an existing job. For people who are one paycheck away from a financial disaster, having extra income after a natural disaster can make all the difference.
Each CENTS course is made up of nine classes over a period of nine weeks. The course is repeated three times each year with about 30 graduates annually.
