HISTORY
Christ the Redeemer was created on September 15, 1983. The first mass in the new was celebrated on October 29, 1983, by Fr. Patrick O'Brien, the founding pastor. Parishioners gathered for 5 years in a temporary building which was the former Celotex office leased from Mr. Sam Barbera at no cost to the church. The parish was created of 75% from St. Genevieve and 25% of St. Bridget. It received its name from the Holy Year of Redemption declared by Pope John Paul II, and may be the only church whose name honors this Holy Year. A special memorial brick from the Holy Year of the Redemption in 1983 which was contained in the Holy Door of St. Peter's Church in Rome is contained in the structure of the church interior. The parish received a donation of some five acres of land for the new building from Mr. Peter A. Aron. Christ the Redeemer has grown into a vibrant welcoming community! All are welcome here. It's a home for saints, a home for sinners, and a home for you!
