Schools Goal, No. 4
The Office of Catholic Schools will ensure that appropriate bylaws and committee charges are available and employed to ensure that each Catholic school operates with a Consultative School Board, and that annual training is provided with regard to roles, responsibilities, and functioning for all Board members and school administrators.
Objective No. 1
The roles and responsibilities of the Consultative School Board members will be clearly articulated through a common set of bylaws and committee charges developed by the Office of Catholic Schools and approved by Diocesan leadership and legal counsel.
Objective No. 2
Pastors, principals, School Board members, and committee members will participate in annual training, provided by the Office of Catholic Schools with professional resources as necessary, related specifically to Board functioning, committee functioning, best practices, and models of collaboration.
Objective No. 3
The pastor/president/principal will review their current Advisory Council documents and transition to the new standard bylaws and committee charges for Consultative School Boards within one year.
Objective No. 4
In a spirit of transparency and accountability, all School Boards and administrators will develop effective programs of communication with both internal and external constituencies.
Objective No. 5
The Office of Catholic Schools will provide a recommended matrix for the make-up of School Boards as well as term limits and committee responsibilities for Board members.
Schools Goal, No. 5
The Office of Catholic Schools in collaboration with pastors, principals, and professional staff will ensure that each school operates with contemporary statements of philosophy, mission, vision, and a profile of the graduate at graduation, all of which emphasize Catholic identity and academic excellence.
Objective No. 1
The Office of Catholic Schools will create a diagrammatic depiction, descriptors, bylaws, and committee charges for the recommended Diocesan School Board utilizing best practices from throughout the Country.
Objective No. 2
The Office of Catholic Schools, in collaboration with pastors and principals, will populate both the Diocesan School Board and its standing committees.
Objective No. 3
The Office of Catholic Schools will establish an annual in-service training program for Diocesan School Board members focusing on roles, responsibilities, functioning, collaborative planning, and communication.
Schools Goal, No. 6
In collaboration with pastors and principals, the Office of Catholic Schools will ensure that each Catholic school has a qualified leader and leadership team empowered by the governing body to realize and implement the school’s statements of philosophy, mission, vision, and the profile of the graduate at graduation.
Objective No. 1
The Office of Catholic Schools will consistently utilize normative job descriptions and performance appraisal instruments for all school administrators.
Objective No. 2
The Office of Catholic Schools will facilitate annual in-service training for both school administrators and emerging leaders.
Objective No. 3
The Office of Catholic Schools will ensure that professional development opportunities are available annually for school administrators and emerging leaders with regard to all four areas of the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools.
Objective No. 4
The Office of Catholic Schools will ensure that training is provided for all School Board members and administrators with regard to effective models of collaboration and contemporary models of communication.
Schools Goal, No. 7
The Office of Catholic Schools will be adequately staffed to ensure effective support to, and leadership for, Catholic schools.
Objective No. 1
In addition to the current positions, consideration shall be given to hiring specialists in the areas of curriculum, instructional delivery, marketing and communication, and information technology in order to assist the individual schools in meeting the goals of the Strategic Plan.
Objective No. 2
The Office of Catholic Schools will collaborate with the Office of Finance to carry out a cost/benefit analysis of staffing and services rendered to schools and parishes prior to adjusting staffing levels.
